Department established in 1990, offering MBBS course
Since 2007 PG Course ( M S ) started. Starting with 1 seat per year, now we enroll 5 students per year
4 consultants (Faculty) available round the clock. One is Super specialist in Vitreo Retinal diseases.
Dept has 5 speciality clinics namely Glaucoma, Retina, Squint & Oculoplasty , Refraction and Corneal diseases needing keratoplasty.
In UG and PG teaching and training , OSCE, OSPE, Video Assisted skill transfer, Wet & skill lab used for better outcome
Department in collaboration with Pediatrics department carries ROP Screening as and when required to detect problem early and treat if necessary ,to prevent child going into blindness
Department has Liabrary having 220 Hard books, Journals. E-Books & CDs mainly surgical videos for training and counselling purpose
Conducts monthly diagnostic outreach camps and selected benificiaries get treatment at hospital at reasonable cost
Apart from common ocular surgeries like cataract,glaucoma,lacrimal sac,squint,oculoplasty ,management of eye injuries( on emergency basis) department is upgraded with Compact Intuitiv PhacoMachine for ,phacoemulsification surgery for cataract as advanced technique .at reasonable cost.
Specular microscopy, to detect health of cells of cornea is made available at hospital at reasonable cost
For glaucoma screening and early diagnosis and folloeups AutoPerimetry,
Hand Held Applanation Tonometer ,Ultrasonic Pachymeter are available
Nd YAG laser facility available ,for treatment of post cataract surgery complication called PCO.
Out of 24 MS students passed out (Alumini ) one completed fellowship in Shankara Netralya , one completed DNB, One Fellowship in cornea &
One faculty is completing her fellowship in Cornea & Eye banking soon.
Recently under School of Allied Health Sciences ,B Optometry Degree course of 4 years started. First batch 9 & this year 15 students took admission. Their second year onwards training is done in department.
Department with Help of mainly Anatomy department & Dr Aditi Watve ,Oculoplastc surgeon conducted 2 cadaveric workshops one on Endonasal DCR and one on Lid Reconstruction under able guidance of Dr Javed Ali from Hyderabad.

Ophthalmology department provides all basic services on OPD or IPD basis , for all needy Patients attending our OPD and also referred from diagnostic camps. As per specialty clinics we provide services like Biomicroscopy, Applanation Tonometry, Gonioscopy, Automated perimetry, Ultrasonic pachymetry, Specular microscopy ,Keratometry& A scan biometry, Direct & Indirect Ophthalmoscopy for diagnosing & following cases of cataract, Cornea, glaucoma, Retinal & Optic nerve diseases.

On routine basis cataract surgeries including phacoemulsification, glaucoma, lacrimal sac, Squint, Ptosis ,lid malpositions & on Emergency basis Ocular trauma surgeries mainly involving lids , Sclera & Cornea, Chemical ocular burns , Acute glaucoma are treated . Additionally we treat indicated cases by Cryotherapy. In liason with Paediatric department we screen premature babies , or low birth wt babies for Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) & at risk are referred for immediate treatment. We also fit Contact lenses for correction of Refractory Errors, Prosthesis Or Shell implantation for( Post evisceration/Enucleation ) disfigured eyes.
