Department of Pathology
The Department of Pathology, D. Y. Patil medical college Kolhapur is dedicated to understanding the basis of disease, to teach knowledge to others, and to apply our understanding to improve medical diagnoses and treatment of patients. The research goal in the Department of Pathology is to extend our knowledge of the mechanisms of disease, including at the molecular level. Such an approach is hoped to achieve improved diagnoses, treatment, and eventually prevention.
The Department of Pathology, provides laboratory services to both in-patients and out-patients; and academic activities in the form of teaching of undergraduate students of medical, nursing, physiotherapy and other paramedical courses and also postgraduate students in Pathology, medical laboratory technologists courses. Undergraduate and postgraduate teachings are offered as per the guidelines of National Medical Commission India, through a standard set of theory lectures, Small group teaching, Self-directed learning, DOAP sessions, practical and AETCOM modules. Examinations and assessments are conducted to asses student performance and give constructive feedback. We follow mentorship program starting from Undergraduate level. Faculty at Pathology department maintains and upgrade teaching material to maximize the benefits to students.
The Pathology departmental museum has a collection of more than 300 specimens and it is constantly updated by Museum curator. A separate set of specimens are made available for MD Pathology training and evaluation. MD Pathology students are given best of training to develop skills and research acumen from the very beginning and involved in regular subject seminars, slide reviews, and a rotation through various sections of Hematology, Histopathology, cytology, Clinical Pathology, Blood Bank, Molecular Biology Laboratory and Basic Medical Sciences. The Department of Pathology has library for UG and PG students with more than 250 books and reputed journals.
Principal services offered include Haematology & Clinical Pathology services, Histopathology services, Cytopathology – Fine needle aspiration cytology, guided aspirations, body fluids, exfoliative cytology and Immunopathology.
The Faculty in Pathology department are accomplished and exhibit a passion for teaching, training and research. Faculty regularly meet to discuss on ways to make the department of state-of-art. Faculty and postgraduates in Pathology take immense pride in presenting scientific papers and posters at state national and international conferences, workshops, seminars and Webinars. Faculty and postgraduates regularly publish research papers in reputed indexed and institute journals. Alumni of Pathology department have been successful in their professional lives and constantly keep in touch with the department by way sharing scientific material and discussing interesting cases. Dr. Anusha currently working as nephropathologist. Dr. Rajesh Munde working as chief consultant pathologist at Prince Ali khan hospital Mumbai. The department of Pathology strives to be the best with passing time to achieve the goals of the department.
